ACTIF EPICA ~ Manitoba Yeti (ManiYeti) ~ Caribou

Ian Hall sent us this video about a race up in Manitoba. We asked for lttle bit more information and he sent us the following ~

Sure – it’s a 130km point-to-point in Manitoba on February 18th, on an old wagon road called the Crow Wing Trail (much of which is now gravel or dirt roads).  The last 25 miles are into the City of Winnipeg (population 700,000) on the winding Seine River and it finishes at our Festival du Voyageur (Winnipeg has a thriving French population – Post race beverages are sure to include caribou).  Weather will be a big factor since, as you can see in the video, we are in the wide open prairies.  Even with warm temperatures (by our standards – around -10C), the windchill can take the heat out of you quickly (-30 or -40 is not uncommon).  This is the first year for this event, but Winnipeg’s strong bike culture means that around 25 riders are testing their mettle, and a few diehards are travelling from Minneapolis and Delaware to ride.

Bike sponsors include Surly, Mountain Equipment Coop and Olympia Cycle, plus we are fortunate to have many community sponsors and partners.
Oh, and we tracked down the elusive Manitoba Yeti (ManiYeti) and hired him as our press agent.  So far he is working okay, but his grammar leaves a little to be desired.  And he’s really bloody shy – always calls meetings and then bails out.  He’s going to have to step it up if he wants a good reference.
If you happen to have some frequent flyer points you want to burn, c’mon up.
