Dirk and I go way back…we met up at one of the MTBR Northwoods Not-a-gatherings held up in the Chequamegon NF in Northern Wisconsin. We’ve been to just about every Gnome-Fest and Northwoods – MTB Festival together from South Dakota to the UP. Soon after I got my Pugsley, Dirk ordered this nickel plated aluminun beauty direct from Speedway Cycles in Anchorage, Alaska. Umma II 70mm rims, laced to Hadley hubs and a Fatback Carbon Fork, rounded out Dirks initial build.
I only get to ride with Dirk a few times a year, but I started to notice that even though he would bring his dual suspension Titus, he would spend 90% of the time riding his Fatback. This summer he added a Thudbuster suspension seatpost to take the edge off of longer singletrack rides that he was logging.
It makes me wonder how many of you out there ride your fat-bikes, year ’round. Dirk’s Fatback is a dual-mojo – four season – full time – fun machine! Send us some pictures and your fatty could be the next contestant on Reader’s Ride(s)!

+1 for 4-season fatties. My ti’ Fatback is outside every week, all year long:
