Our Amigos down at Chumba USA have been working on their fat-bike since before we met them at Interbike last year. Chumba introduced the 29+ Ursa last year at the big show in the desert and they also shared the news about their plans to bring a fat-bike to market called the Ursa Major. Since then, they’ve pioneered the first fat and plus bike races in their home state of Texas and put a team rider, Neil Beltchenko, on the podium of the Tour Divide race. While I was on the road, out west, Vince from Chumba, sent me the news that the Ursa Major was being released and was live on their web-site. If you like high quality steel fat-bikes made in the USA, you should continue reading. Vince told us that their fat-bike had been tested in the snow in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Colorado and on the dirt in Colorado and throughout Texas. The UM is the product of multiple prototypes, long trail rides, races and about 10+ months of non-stop development and testing.
Chumba is offering the UM in various trail models. A single speed and a backcountry model are available as completes and they also offer a full custom parts selection on all our their models. There are two color options : Sherman Green or Range Blue. Complete build kits for the UM include, XT 1×11 speed, SLX 1×10 and Singlespeed drivetrains for between $2999 and $4500 depending on which variation you chose, or a frame only for $1095. Frame/fork sets available and custom builds are welcomed.
