Riddlebox Winter Ultra

December 6, 2014

Race Options:

We will have separate classes for men and women, as well as fat tire class (26x3.7 or wider), and skinny class (anything less than 26x3.7, 29, or 700c).

The King Race: Bikes only. 75 Miles. 2100 feet of climbing. This race will be mostly on gravel, with a small amount of dirt roads and paved roads. Expect a hike-a-bike or two, some closed roads, rickety bridges, and a whole lot of scenery. Race starts at 8am. Cut-off time is 5pm. This race is unsupported. You’ll need to have plenty of hydration and nutrition, your own tools and parts in case of mechanical failure, and the right apparel to keep you warm. We will have vehicles ready to come rescue you if you get in a bind.

The Ace Race: Bikes Only. 28 miles. 1100 feet of climbing. Race starts at 10am. This race is entirely on gravel and dirt roads. No Pavement. This route was designed to be both challenging and fun. There will be no support for this race, so you’ll need to bring your own nutrition, hydration, and yeti repellant. We will start in Iowa, and pass over the river into South Dakota after a few miles, this is where you’ll pass through a cemetery just before a very fun descent down a very poorly maintained dirt road. There might be a very easy and quick hike-a-bike if we get the snow we are hoping for. As you pass over the river back into Iowa, expect a few good climbs (followed by some excellent descents) and rolling hills. Cut-off is 5pm.

The Joker Run: 50K (exactly!) Gravel and dirt. 1300 feet of climbing. Race starts at 9am. The route is similar to the Ace Race route, but definitely not the same. We know runners and cyclists like it different, so we made this route with you in mind. With snow, the roads will be very nicely packed and easy to run on. The dirt roads will be a bit more of a challenge, but only a small portion of the total route. We have several aid stations available for you, about every 5 miles. Cut-off time is 5pm.

Food/Drink: Breakfast and Dinner will be supplied by Uncle’s Eds Specialty Meats. They are a catering company here in Sioux Falls and have some amazing grub. Snacks will be supplied by Calico Skies. Calico Skies will be open all day for anyone who will be traveling with you but not racing. We will also have beer and vine available after the race.

Post-Race: Awards will be at 5:30pm, followed by a raffle for some awesome prizes. We will have plenty of food and drinks, games, possibly live music, and just an all around good time. We encourage you to hang around and make December 6, 2014 one of the best days of your year.
