The Iditarod Trail Invitational is the world's longest  least supported winter ultra, the Tour de France of fat biking. 55 chosen athletes from all over the world compete in this event. The event is called the Invitational because participants have to go through an interview process with race organizers of qualify through one of the shorter at least 100 mile long winter ultra offered throughout the US, Canada and Finland.

The shorter 350 mile version finishes in the Interior community of McGrath and the 1000 mile distance continues to Nome on the Bering Sea. The roots of this race can be traced back to the mid 80's when it was  known  as the Iditabike. The fat bike was created for this event. Alaska Ultra Sport took over organizing the event in 2002 and the upcoming 2015 event start Sunday March 1 at 2:00 pm is  the 14th annual ITI event with 55 athletes from around the world made up of race veterans or qualified through one of the qualifiers as listed on the ITI website or by participation in one of the ITI training camps organized by Bill & Kathi Merchant.
