Lone Cone Fat Bike Challenge

N/A
January 20, 2019

Lone Cone is located in gorgeous Norwood, Colorado just outside of Telluride in the San Juan Mountains. The Lone Cone Fat Bike Challenge is a self-supported backcountry endurance fat bike race.  For 2019 we have two great options. We will have the long course at 25 miles and the short course at 12 miles.

The long course route is 25 miles long with 2500 feet elevation gain on freshly groomed snowmobile trails. Don’t let the length and elevations fool you, it can still take up to 5 hours with fresh snow! This is not meant for beginner riders or someone looking to check out fat bikes for their first time. The route is on groomed trails but fresh deep soft snow can exist which will make for a challenging ride. Expect to walk on the infamous Hillary Step towards the top of the route at 10,500 feet. Be prepared, this will be an epic day on the fat bike!

The short course route is 12 miles with 750 feet of climbing. This is perfect for beginner-intermediate riders looking not to suffer at the higher elevations and just to have a good ole fun time. You will still get to experience the first big climb to the USFS boundary line just like the long course but you get to turnaround and head back to the start/finish.
