The Pie Burner Thanksgiving Weekend FatBike Ride

November 28, 2015

AboutThe Pie Burner FatBike ride.......
Where:
Hibbing, Mn. Or 1 hour north and west of Duluth, Mn.
When:
November 28th... or always the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Meeting place:
We meet in the south parking lot of HCC, or the Hibbing Community College.
Near the baseball fields... or across the street from Taco Johns and Pizza Ranch.
Time:
9:00 a.m. (with a 1/2 hour grace period for those coming from distance, the morning of). You can message me for my number, in case of unforseen issues the morning of.
Pace: you can go as fast as you like, but myself and a few others are the only ones who know where we're headed.
What to wear: you're a FatBiker you already know!! things have been frozen solid every year, so not much red is on people or clothes.
The ride..... is around long abandoned mining area's in and around the Hibbing and Chisholm areas, in the heart of Minnesota's Iron Range... with lots of ups, and downs sure to follow.
The ride utilizes old mining roads, four wheeler trails, the Mesabi Trail and other various goat paths. Along with some frozen water to play around on.
"It's riding like you'll find in no other part of Minnesota"....
"Unique in its own way"....
"True FatBike country".....are just a few quotes I've heard.
People who've attended seem to truly enjoy themselves; they keep coming back.
The 1st two years we offered only one distance, for this year's ride we'll offer two.
One short, which I've already announced, and will be lead by a reliable local FatBiker.
The longer route; 25 plus miles.... which I don't know if I'll make public.... it's an adventure ride on FatBikes after all.
I try to keep the longer ride at or under the 5 hour mark, just because that seems to be a good gauge, for me and others to pull the pin, and go get some burgers and beverages at our local burger joint, Palmers Tavern.
Which BTW has ample outdoor secure parking for our trusty FatBikes.
A normal non FatBike can be ridden, but it's totally snow dependant.
Over the 1st two years snow depth has been at or near 4 to 5 inches.... but it is what it is.
Drop the pressure and let's ride!

Last year's ride saw a 29er tandem rock the route..... coinsidently that couple, this year will rock a fat tandem!!
I personally am looking forward to seeing that!!

Cost: this year the cost to ride will be a new unused toy, book and or stocking stuffers.
For children ages 1-18 years of age. Price limit is $10.00.
All donated items will go to The North St. Louis County Toys For Tots Foundation.

Above all else bring you legs, lungs and a good sense of adventure, and you'll have a great day on two fat wheels.....

Helmets: you're an adult, I'm not going to say "you have to wear one," BUT if you take a spill and wake up 30 minutes later and find yourself alone; you'll be just that, alone! ;)
I'm not saying the group will leave you..... but just be warned this riding area has sharp, jagged, really every kind of rock you can image. Speeds can reach 20 + mph on the downhills.
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!

Also, this goes without saying, but bringing a spare tube or two also, WOULDN'T be a bad idea.

Anyway, I think that pretty much covers it...... if you have any questions fire away.

No maps, no GPX files, no waivers, all fun!!

Global Fat Bike Day +1

December 6, 2015

In it's 4th year, Global Fat Bike Day is just like it sounds, a day to celebrate and ride fat bikes. Technically, Saturday (12/5) is the day, but hey, many of us work on Saturdays so we are declared the whole weekend a Fat Bike Holiday. Here is the plan:

* Meet at the Schweitzer Roundabout (across from the fire station). We will have warm drinks and hot dogs to warm your insides and a fire to warm your outsides.

* FREE Surly Fat Bike Demos 10-1pm. Ever been fat bike curious? Now is your chance to come try one out. We will have several sizes (sorry no kids), and a short course set up on the groomed service road leaving from the roundabout. First come, first served.

* Group Fat Bike Ride leaving at 1:30pm. Get your fat bike ready, meet up and we will do a intermediate level ride for about 1.5 hours on a variation of groomed roads and trails in the roundabout area. Need a fat bike for the group ride? Call Greasy Fingers ahead and reserve one of our rentals for $20 (available at 1:30pm after the demos).

Co-sponsored by Schweitzer Mountain Resort, a big thanks to them for that!

Got questions, give us a call 208.255.4496 or shoot us an email at Brian@GreasyFingersBikes.com
