Custom Rolling Darryls

I didn’t set out to build the coolest set of Fat-Bike wheels in the world, but this is how I did it.

Parts:

2 Parts Surly Rolling Darryl Kawasaki Green rims. (Very Limited Edition. One of 33 pair!) Because Greg thought I had to have them!

2 parts Hugi Hayes hubs, the rear salvaged my skinny tire bike after years of faithful service, the front in opposite colors was provided John Trusky after years of faithful service for him on multiple bikes. (More with the limited edition. Forgot how many sets were made but 100 or less. You may have seen them at EuroBike or InterBike but probably not anywhere else.)

64 parts DT Swiss Champion Spokes, Black. Because white spokes were 4X as much!

64 parts DT Swiss Brass Nipples, Black. Because nobody builds with alloy anymore, do they?

Purple tape found in Greg’s shop. Because we didn’t have anything cooler!

Duct tape found in Greg’s shop. Because it works!

30 some odd parts Miller High Life. (Cans, not bottles!) Because it’s a damn fine beer for the money!

Pepperoni, Gyro Meat and Onion pizza from Pizza Shuttle. Because they delivered to the Nut Factory in no time flat! (414-289-9993)

Process:

Drink a lot of beer and lace in a 3 cross pattern and because it wont fit into your stand at home, have  Aristotle at Cory the Bike Fixer tension and true, install on bike and be the coolest, out of two, FatBikes in the Tour of Tosa.

Maybe I should just let the pix speak. (Click on any pic to enlarge)
