Count-Down to the Team SnowBike Enduro

Groomed Singletrack

Trail Conditions – Nice packed snow! We have 3″ of new fresh snow on top of the packed and thaw degraded 7″ that fell last Friday. There is also snow in the forecast for Friday. From now until race day, it will be bitterly cold, so that should keep our base very tidy till race day. The race day forecast is calling for a high temp of 27 F under partly cloudy skies with light winds – (we shall see) – We’ll continue to report trail conditions throughout the week.

The Course – The course leaves the transition area and climbs to the highest point in Walworth County on double-track and then transitions into singletrack that twists and turns past a cemetery and two technical trail features before descending back down to the transition area. It’s about 2 miles that will challenge everyone, while providing a big grin.

Schedule:

9:00 – 11:00 – Pre-Ride the course

11:00 – Noon – Registration

Noon – Captain’s Draft Derby (to determine who picks first)

12:15 – Team Rider Draft (Team Captains pick riders like in 5th grade gym class)

Riders may bring their own three person team but captains may only “protect” one rider with a “franchise tag”.  Others go into the rider pool…keep it fun!

The rules of this draft will have to be very flexible. We’ll need everyone’s cooperation during this phase of the process of getting the Captain/Rider ratio, basically even.  If you have a fat-Bike-you may be a team captain!

1:00 – Race Starts – LeMans Start –something fun!

4:00 – Finish – The last Racer must cross the finish line at or before 4:00 PM – In the case that there is a tie for the total number of laps…..the tie breaker will be determined through indian leg wrestling (best 2 out of 3).

WHAT TO BRING

Only Fat-Bikes allowed on course.

Helmets are Required.

Riders are NOT required to have their own Fat-Bike. Teams will share their own pool of bikes. (riders of like size work well-teams may have one-two or three fat-bikes). This is the perfect opportunity to try more than one bike! Surly and Salsa will have fat-bikes there for you to Demo for a lap.

Fat-Bikes should all have flat pedals installed to accommodate bike sharing.

Bring a Mug or Stein – for the Keg ofLakeFrontBrewing Maibock!

EZ-Ups with Sides – (If you have one)  Let’s make a village of EZ-Ups surrounding a nice warm campfire.

No Pets allowed at this venue.

Food and Beverage – Lake Geneva CanopyToursis going to have delicious home made HOT Food for sale!

Bring some $ for the expo area – Buy some Fat-Bike Goodies!

CLOTHING

Every sort of warm Cozy Winter Clothing you can find. This is not the time to skimp on what you bring out to the venue. Bring Chemical hand and foot warmers. Bring stuff you can ride in and stuff you can stand around and sip beer in. Bring out the big guns of your winter clothing arsenal.

Clothing Mathematics – 5-6 hours in the great out of doors – 3 hour race – 10 minute laps with a 3 person team = riding 10 minutes + resting 20 minutes, divided by 3 hours = the number of dry base layers needed. Correct answer…..one metric ton of winter clothing.

Bring Extra Socks, Hats, Mittens….bring it all!

SCORING

We….or rather you (with counting assistance) will all be manually marking your score on large scoreboards that will be displayed in the transition area. Make sure you mark every lap (or it won’t count).  We will have smart people there who can help teams count!

PLEASE REMEMBER

The most important rule is – Be Nice & Have FUN! Be courteous to all other trail users and be safe at all times. The purpose of this event is to have fun…so please have FUN! This is our first event at Lake Geneva Canopy Tours, so let’s show our appreciation.  REMEMBER – We present awards to the team that has the most fun, as well as the team that rides the most laps.

In the spirit of fun, I ask that we all try to be as easy going as possible-this is not a NORBA National race. We’re going for an atmosphere of organized chaos…so a little ‘go with the flow’ would go a long way, to make this fun for everyone.

Lakefront Brewery will have a keg of their delicious beer for us to enjoy. Please drink responsibly.

what is the registration fee for participating?

Can I ask why you are getting all UCI with the bike limitations? If I can shred the course on my BMX you would object? Is this for fun or more of a marketing exercise?

Blake, UCI? Hardly! I think we have 3 rules. 3.7 or wider tires, Team riders are picked from a pool and have fun! How many rules does the UCI have?

This event was designed to introduce non-fat-bike owners to the fun that is FAT! You don;t even need a fat-bike to participate. Part of the deal is that those with bikes share.

It would be funny to see you try to ride the course on a BMX bike though. Your gearing would suck on that first climb and you’d immediately sink up to your axles in some parts of the single track and I bet that thing would get heavy because you’d be carrying it most of the way.

BTW, does the ABA/NBL let fat bikes race on the BMX track? I think I’d be at least mid-pack on my fat-bike.
