Let’s review the SKS Fat Bike Fenders, Grand M.O.M. and Grand D.A.D. The Grand M.O.M. is a rear specific fender and the Grand D.A.D. is the front specific of the same type.
As most SKS products I have seen or used, these Mud Guards have excellent manufacturing quality and nice design features. Installing the rear fender was really easy; I usually keep a rear rack on my fat bike, so I thought it was going to be necessary to remove it in order to install the Grand M.O.M. , however, and to my surprise it fits perfectly inside it. This fender has a double pivot adjustment system, of which I initially thought was an overkill feature however I quickly realized that this feature allows the user to perfectly fit the fender to the same ride height at the front and rear of the fender in relation to the tire circumference. Installing the Grand D.A.D. (the front fender) was a little different story because it took a little more effort that the rear one, but mainly because I had to remove some burs from the fork of my bike, however this has nothing to do with the fender itself but with the manufacturing of the fork. Once I removed the internal burs left by the manufacturer of the fork, installing the front fender was easy, by following the instructions provided. The fender comes with an orange cover that needs to be removed in order to install it, and after installing the fender this has the be reattached: yeah it may seem a bit annoying, however I think this is a great feature that would prevent dirt from getting into the hardware, which in turn should make removal a snap.
Both fenders are molded using two different compounds; this feature gives these fenders a great combination of rigidity and flexibility/softness. This is a great characteristic because the rigid compound makes the fenders stiff enough to keep them in place and to the work as they are supposed to, while at the same time the softer ends make the fenders more resistant to hard impacts where they are more prone to crack or even break. Not to mention that should the edge of the fenders come in contact with your unprotected legs, this softer material could prevent some serious scrapes from happening to your legs.
Overall these fenders do the work they are supposed to, the only disadvantage I see with these fenders, is that they may not be wide enough for 4.7” tires, other than that, they should be a great addition to your arsenal of Fat-Bike accessories.

I have them on my Moonie and they work great!
Excellent Review! I have them too and my rear kept falling down. After looking at your pictures I’ve adjusted it by putting it as low as possible without hitting the tire and it has been stable the last three days.
Instructions? What instructions? I’m a nerd after all.
Pat, how did you get the front one on your Moonlander? The biggest adapter won’t fit and the next size down is too small. If you can, could you pop it off and upload a picture of it somewhere, please? I can’t figure it out, for some reason.
Thanks.
i’m having the same problem. Did you get it figured out?It seems like i’m missing the second size down.
I had also put this fender on my Moonlander. The size that seems like it is too small does work. I ended up using my Allen wrench socket set to crank on the bolt on order to get the adapter to spread enough to create a tight fit.
I’ve got the specialized fat boy w the carbon fork, so there is no tube hole on the bottom side of the fork.
Is there a way to mount these to my fork?
Thanks, dan
What is the rack you have on this bike. I’d like a big one and this looks good. Thanks
Surly Nice Rack
Thanks, do you know if the Surley Nice Front rack will fit over the front fender?
How do you stop the rattle on the grand dad?
When the going gets a bit shaky, I know about it by the volume!
Duct Tape fixes everything…
My was rattling when I first put it on. Then I adjusted it so it is farther from the frame, and now it just wiggles quietly.
Where in the UK can I buy these and that Rack also?!
I have the Charge Cooker Maxi 2015.
Try Charlie the Bike Monger. The rack is a Surly Nice Rack.
Is the Grand D.A.D. a quick-release front fork?
