SHELLTRACK! ~ <{[(Beach Party)]}> this Weekend

When mother nature farts out a mid-winter thaw,

we don’t cry in our beer….We hit the BEACH!

Our amigos at the Broken Spoke Bike Studio up in Manitowoc have a thaw proof plan for a super fun beach, trail and dune race course that will be somewhere around 2 miles in length and transition at a nice covered picnic pavilion with electricity and a big grill. They’ll have the grill all fired up, so bring some brats or veggies to throw on there to go along with the free beverages provided by Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. With electricity, you could even bring a hot plate and make yourself a grilled cheese sammich if you like. The beaches of this area are basically a fat-bike paradise!

Come and join in the fun!

I did a test run today of the track and boy was it fast and fun! The lap comes in at .93 miles. My lap time came in at 5:33. So… The race will be 20 laps at a estimated time of 2 hours. 4 person teams will be built (unless you have your own). Each rider will roughly do 5 laps. The setup of the race will make for a fast and exciting event. Some technical riding added to the course and even some risky shortcuts…

Why such short laps? I thought you had something like a 2.5 mile lap? Thinking 5 min. laps is way to short. Hardly time to chill after each lap.

Is it an option to just do your five laps and then send the next rider out instead the exchange each lap ?

If your team decides to run it that way, I have no problem with it. Wouldn’t be a disadvantage though?

After doing some test runs of the 2.5 mile (16min average) lap and the 1 mile lap (6min average), I decided it will make for a much more exciting race with the short lap. Conditions will be slower the day of the race too vs the frozen ride I did this morning. You will have about 18-20 minutes of wait time until you do another lap. This will keep everyone attentive and make for a fast fun race. There will be chilling time before and after the race.

Sounds good…..should a fun day, the shorter crit style sounds cool. If you build it…..we will come.

I have to applaud this kind of thinking, Flyer!
