Wallpaper Wednesday ~ Photo Contest Countdown #2

For the next few weeks we’ll be featuring the winning photos from our 45NRTH Summer Photo Contest on Wallpaper Wednesday.

Tom McDonald of Oceanside California entered this shot that exemplifies 2012’s Summer of drought and took 2nd place in our contest. This one is going to drive Sven nuts, because it’s not a landscape format. Tom’s original image was a vertical format that does not lend itself to a traditional horizontal screen resolution. We did our best effort to crop it while trying to keep the original integrity if you want to use it on your computer screen. Below is the image as it was shot. Don’t you wish you had a portrait monitor?

Feel free to download it and use it as your own wallpaper. Just click on the image to open the full-sized version which you can right-click to save.

Very cool picture. Thanks for sharing it.

I *have* a portrait monitor, so I am happy you included the original shot, since I have to do my own wallpaper most of the time.

For those of you interested in getting a portrait monitor, many screens, (particularly those without built-in speakers and cameras) have a “VESA mount” on the back — that’s 4 mounting holes in a square, either 75mm or 100mm on a side. If your monitor stand won’t rotate to the vertical position, you can buy an aftermarket stand for about $40 that will do the trick. Look for a “Neo-Flex,” the brand I use.

I now have 4 x 23″ monitors all mounted vertically on both my work and home systems. The productivity increase is immense from not having to flip constantly back and forth between windows, and from being able to see a whole page of a document plus all the menus, icons and other junk when I’m editing in Word.
