Tim H from the Pittsburgh area sent in the photo for this week’s Wallpaper Wednesday and the accompanying story. Tim says:
The Aseph, PA location where I snapped this picture has always been a special place for me. I know this trail as the Laurel Classic challenge loop, Google it if you’d like for more information. It’s a 22 mile course with 3400ft of climbing, rocky descents, twisty single track, multiple stream crossings, with breath taking access road climbs. It was my first (big) race as a kid. I don’t need to talk about how important those first races are to an individual. They are special in many ways.
Christmas 2012, I was heading up to the area to visit some relatives who are close to the area. The picture was taken at the top of the second road climb. It was 28 degrees, the sun was blazing, air was crisp, and the sky was blue. I was well aware that the ice was thin but wanted to feel those Fat tires crush into the ice and it did just that. I figured since the bike was standing on its own it would be a great opportunity to photograph it in all its glory. The sun seemed to just hit it right, enough that it showed the shadow of its massive tires and rotors.
I have owned my Salsa Mukluk for about 3 months now, its enabled me to ride terrain in conditions that I normally wouldn’t ride. This is a total game changer for anyone who wants to get the most out of mountain biking. Everyone should have one of these bikes, there is no longer a valid excuse for not riding.
