Bike Black Ribbon – Bastille Day – Beach Ride

Sometimes the best rides aren’t planned and seem to come out of nowhere. Last weekend, Sven texted me about a beach ride that he was putting together for Sunday morning. The only thing standing in the way, was the fact that my moonlander was in need of some serious TLC. The small chain ring was chain sucking every time I tried to climb anything. So despite the fact that I was expecting guests and that the ride would take place on my wedding anniversary, I pulled apart my crank and did some dremmel tool grinding on the small chain ring, to see if I could get it to work. After 18 months of abuse both of my chain rings need to be replaced but I wanted to go on this ride…..and man, was I ever right!

On Sunday morning we met a little north of Milwaukee and by the number of riders that showed up, it looks like I wasn’t the only one that thought it was a perfect day for beach ride. The Milwaukee chapter of the bike black ribbon society was well represented. Even the interim executive director of the Wisconsin Bicycle Fed showed up for the ride. I’m not going to bore you with a bunch of details about how far we went or who won the multiple rounds of Derby on the day. I will tell you that this was the best beach ride in recent memory. We swam, we derbied like gentlemen, we laughed a hell of a lot  and ended the ride by constructing a sweet jump out of Driftwood. I hope you enjoy these pictures half as much as we enjoyed this ride.
