With an afternoon flight scheduled for my return to the gnomelands of Wisconsin, I had a short list of things to go and cover before heading to the aeropuerto. This year’s show was the fat-bike market’s cotillion. Interbike 2013 was what I had hoped that last year’s show would look like through my personal pair of myopic fat-bike googles. Fat Bikes are here to stay and this winter shows every sign of becoming a golden time for the fat-bike community, with new bikes, tires and events for all of us to enjoy.
Raceface has the perfect Crank to compliment your dream fat-bike build with their new 100mm spindle Next Carbon Crank. The Next features a new spline spider system that allows the same crank to run a single/double of even triple. Rob from RaceFace shared that the weight on the new RF Next fat crank at some where in the neighborhood of 500 grams.
Kenda has a new 4.0 fat bike tire. This ginger bearded earthling lured me to the Kenda Booth to see their new fat tire prototype. They gave me a small piece of pineapple cake to celebrate the Taiwanese Festival of the Moon. Then they told me that they didn’t want any photos of the sample. They said it would be ok if I used this description that I came up with after seeing the tread. I called it a husker-morph – sort of an endomorph tread pattern, with the knob height of the 45NRTH Husker Du. the tread pattern is still in development, so stand by for more info.
Kuat Racks have a new fat-bike capable tray called the trio. The fork mount can handle 135 mm spacing and 15 or 20mm thru axles right out of the box. The strap for the rear wheel is long enough to handle the biggest tires and widest rims.
The Moonlander is still one of my favorite fat-bikes out there. The Fattest of the Fat!
I’m going to close my Interbike coverage with a couple of shots of the Norco Bigfoot. I think this bike would make a great first fatty for folks looking to get started.

Great coverage, Gomez!!! Thanks for all the hard work.
My favorite products were the frame and rims from Borealis and the Snowshoe tire. I have ordered one of the rims and will order the Snowshoes as soon as they are available.
The Yampa frame is awesome, but I am not sure I want to make the jump to carbon and 190 spacing at the same time and would hate to have to give up my kickstand which I use every day with my Mukluk.
ka-bloing a la choy!
Thanks for all the coverage Gomez. It’s fun to see and read the fat bike report from Vegas.
Awesome job Gomez. I wish I could have been there, O well maybe next year. Cheers!
Strong Work, Gomez.
That ginger-bearded dude looks like the one and only Jake Scott. A good dude, for sure. Former Roll employee here in Central Ohio.
Well the big boys are jumping on baord . This is just like the single speed evolution. Surly mass producing a nitch bike and eventially all aboard. Not a bad thing at all
