New Tire Preview ♦ Vee Tire Snowshoe XL

3DMIX-0001

Our amigo Preston from Vee Tire Company is a true veteran of the fat-tire battles that have been waged (mostly on the interwebz) over the past few seasons. In a true testament to Vee’s unrelenting pursuit of the ultimate fat-bike-tire, he just sent me some computer generated 3D images of VT’s newest creation, the Snowshoe XL. Here’s what he wanted to share about their newest pair of fat-bike sneakers.

The Snowshoe XL is an aggressive, studdable fat-bike tire that uses a Silica compound that aids in snow and ice traction. The original Snowshoe is more of a mohawk fast rolling race tread.  The XL is designed with a tread footprint made to get you through the thick stuff. The XL will be offered in a studded version (msrp $170) and a non-studded (msrp $150) and should be available in 1-2 months.

Preston also shared that the XL will be built around a new larger and more ‘true to size’ 26 x 4.7 casing. He shared the following spec’s for the XL.

Rim width:     100mm (means the tire is measured on a 100mm rim like Surly Clown Shoe, Weinmann DHL100 or similar)

Overall diameter:     759mm

Knob shoulder width:     119mm

Max casing width:     121mm (4.76 inches!)

Radius@ Knob shoulder width:    353mm

Radius @ max casing width:     325mm

Let the asshattery and anal-izing begin!
Will it fit on my Pugsley?
How long will the tread last?
Does it float like a butterfly?

OK – this actually sounds promising (they they basically admitted their original snowhshoe was not the correct size) …. however 2months is too late for this winter but IT DOES give us enough time to actually measure and over analyze ready for next winter !!

      Wait, winter started?

Definitely like the idea of studdable 4.7. So far this winter’s fatbike rides were spent slipping around on sheets of ice and hunting for crusty traction.

Hoping these will fit my Norco (80 mm) rims. Narrower rims means narrower footprint, right?
