Reader’s Ride(s) – Snow-Wo

Kris Dennan sent us a shot of his Kona that he built up from a frame and fork. It didn’t take too much convincing to get him to do a little reader’s ride(s) write up about his new toy. This is what Kris shared with Fat-Bike about the build.

I ride for Kona and have a WO that I built up so I thought I’d send a recent ride pic. I built it up from just the frame. I got the frame and fork from Dale Plant and put a new MRP Fat Fork on it. I laced up Hope hubs to Surly Rolling Darryl rims so I had to use the MRP adapter (which requires running a 180mm front rotor) because the hub is the “old standard”, rear spaced 135mm front hub. The MRP fork is designed for new standard, front spaced hubs.

I live by Stratton Mtn. ski area in Vermont.

I work for a guy who is on the board of IMBA, managing his estate and building singletrack on his 420 acres.

Kona is awesome. I worked at a shop for years and sold their bikes. I’ll be racing Gravel Grinders this year and am riding the WO for fun. Next year I’ll be racing in the winter.

I usually get around 15 hrs a week on the WO and just do big adventures on the snowmobile trail network that covers the state.

The WO is an awesome bike when you build it up from a frame. It is true to Kona style, with great manners in technical terrain. Super stable without feeling sluggish.

“As awesome bike when you build it up from the frame”. It appears that the only parts he has changed from standard is every single one. Says something to me about the build Kona is offering…
