The Fat-Bike Universe is literally buzzing with activity. Salsa sponsored, super couple, Jay & Tracey Petervary won the men’s and women’s title at this year’s brutally cold Arrowhead 135. ‘Jay/Tray’ piloted his & hers, Salsa Cycles – Carbon Beargrease Race Bikes to victory, under brutally harsh conditions. I had the pleasure of talking on the phone with JayP, as he and Tracey were driving back to their home in Idaho. JayP’s reply to my congratulating him on his Arrowhead victory was “hey, I’m just doing what I love”. You gotta just love that kind of modesty! JayP is one of our sport’s most respected, ambassadors and always leaves me feeling upbeat and full of positivi-TAY. This March you all have an opportunity to meet Mr. Jay Petervary, face to face. All that you have to do, is head out to JayP’s Backyard Pursuit. JayP shared that, Salsa Cycles teamate, Daniel Musto is going to race her first Ultra distance, fat-bike race in the scenic alpine trails of Idaho – aka: the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem or… JayP’s back yard.
The US National Fat-Bike Championships were announced this week. The US will crown, its first ever, Male and Female, Fat-Bike Champion in Cable Wisconsin on March 8th 2014
Sven is heading to the Shell Track Fat-bike Race in Manitowoc, WI (this weekend) which is part of the Wisconsin Fat-bike Race Series. Many of your favorite fat-bike.com luminaries will be there as well!

- Terry from Winnipeg built this bike in his garage over a couple of days off. No jig, just a mig welder, a grinder and a pipe bender. Eyeballed everything and it came out mostly ok. Used scrap electrical conduit for all the frame tubing and stole the bb pivot, head tube and seat tube off a kids Walmart bike that I found in a back lane. Front fork is a 2002 Marzocchi Shiver that fits a 4.0 tire on a 40mm wide rim with a bit of room to spare. 5 inches of front and 4 inches of rear wheel travel. Figured the bike looked a bit naked with no logo, so I called it “Fat Like Me.” Like me it’s a bit heftier than it needs to be, but it works just fine for the gravel pit riding he likes to do.
- Bram from The Netherlands sent us this picture taken in Italy, in the Dolomites. That is him, with his father who both ride Pugsleys.
Dearest Gomez. I have a question.
Will the Sea Otter Classic event in Kalifornia have a fat tire specific category?
Curious as a beaver,
