45NRTH Introduces the Dillinger 5 a New Five Inch Studded Fatbike Tire

Dillinger-5-2

BLOOMINGTON, MN – FEB 21 – 45North sized up their line of high end fatbike tires by introducing the Dillinger 5 – a larger sibling to their popular four‐inch Dillinger. The Dillinger 5 is aimed at providing additional flotation, stability, and traction while keeping weight and rolling resistance to a minimum.

“Designed to maximize the tread footprint from one side of the tire casing to the other, the ride quality of the Dillinger 5 tire is extremely confidence inspiring”, says 45NRTH General Manager, David Gabrys. The tread blocks progressively get taller from the center to the edge, giving the tire a slightly flatter profile. Shorter blocks in the center also reduce rolling resistance, while the signature paddle treads are widened to give even more braking and acceleration traction.

“The Dillinger 5 features our exclusive concave stud design”, Gabrys said. The concave design creates a hollow carbide tip that doubles the number of edges on each stud making contact with the base surface. This carbide tip is fastened inside of a lightweight aluminum base that is secured inside each tread block. “We started testing the concave design in June 2013 at an indoor hockey rink in Minnesota, and have been astounded by the additional traction and control they deliver”, Gabrys went on to say.

Two different options will be shipping to dealers in early Fall 2014 ‐ 120tpi folding version with concave studs that retails for $250, and a 120tpi folding option that comes without studs for $175. More information about the Dillinger 5 can be found at www.45NRTH.com.

  1. Weight? The first year Dillingers that I own are about 1225 grams. The ones I bought this winter are about 1275 grams (although some I weighed in the LBS were well over 1300). I hope 45N can keep the weight down on these wider tires. I am glad that the stud count is a little higher.

    • Mounted on 90mm Fatback Umma Rims, the D-5′s are 113 mm wide. You can measure your chainstays and make a pretty good call on whether they will fit.
