Happy St. Valentines Day!
It snowed in Tokyo for the first time in 18 years, so I pinged our amigos at Blue Lug to see if they all got out on their fat-bikes and Wakako sent me back some great pictures.

Doug,
Where’s that trail? Can you recommend anything between Duluth and Grand Marais for some good XC riding?
Thanks,
Steve
Steve,
The picture was taken on the Munger Trail in West Duluth. A DNR trail maintained rail trail between Duluth and Hinckley. In the winter it’s groomed for snowmobiles. Bikes aren’t prohibited from using DNR snowmobiles trails in the winter. I display a MN snowmobile trail pass ($36) when I’m out on the trails and I always yield to the snow machines. Stopping all the way to the right and letting them pass. Since I ride on the hundreds of miles of snow machine trails around Duluth, I’m not as familiar with trails further up the shore. But I do know people ride on the NorthShore trail which runs the length of the north shore. I’ve also heard of people riding the snow covered forest service roads in the Superior National Forest. Stop and get a map at a Ranger Station like the one in Tofte.
