Seen this weekend at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show was this Black Sheep Fat-bike. Made from Titanium, check. Rohloff, check. Front suspension, check. Collapses small enough to go as checked baggage on your next flight, check! Wait, what?
Breaks in the frame to facilitate the breakdown are on the chainstays and on the monostay just behind the seat tube.
The Blackest Sheep, James Bleakely, explains that even the custom Cannondale Lefty, an interesting choice since Black Sheep make some of the coolest truss-type front forks available, makes the job of packing the bike up as small as possible even easier. With no right hand fork leg it allows the rear wheel to snuggle up nice and close!
Custom handlebars with a very comfortable, cruiser style bend are beautiful and the The Gille Berthoud shifter for the Rohloff is made in three parts to allow it to fit on the bar even with curves.
The rear rack is another Black Sheep work of art and is removable to help compact the bike into the “checked baggage” status box.
Price? Well, if you have to ask… Check out Black Sheep Bikes to see more amazing titanium bicycle creations.
Why isn’t there a photo of this thing collapsed?
Ya, right? I see no collapse! What a crock!
Not a crock – it does collapse.
