Dave Wages from Ellis Cycles has won several awards at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show in the past racking up such show stoppers as “Best Lugged Bike”, “Best Road Bike”, “Best Steel Frame” and, in 2010, “Best in Show”! Quite an accomplishment! So, how do you add to that elite list of awards? With a fat-bike of course!

For the 2014 NAHBS, Dave decided to build himself a fat-bike to highlight his excellent brazing work and was rewarded with a “Best Fillet Brazed Bike” award for his efforts!

I asked Dave to tell us a bit more about the frame he calls the Neve. He explained that it’s almost a complete Dedacciai 29’er tubeset with the exception of the seat tube which is an externally butted Columbus Zona tube. Dave is a tall guy and he said it was tough to find light tubes long enough for some of the main tubes. He went on to explain that the Dedacciai stuff seemed like the best choice for a frame his size, but smaller bikes might get some True Temper stuff instead.
