Rody Walter’s Groovy Cycleworks custom fabricates bicycles, bars, stems and cranks along with other specialty, one off cycling gear. With Rody being the sole builder and fabricator, they truly are unique, made to order projects.
I’ve worked with Rody in the past for a set of LUV Handles handle bars for one of my rides so it was really cool to meet him at the North American Bicycle Show this year and get a chance to talk to the man himself about his current projects. The one pictured here, dubbed the De Swaffelen Wagon, was built for a very good customer overseas who is a passionate cyclist and unique bike owner with his own bicycle museum.
The obvious inspiration was the venerable VW Microbus and the Flower-power generation. You really have to see this bike in person to appreciate the attention to detail and the quality of the finish.
Swaffelen, at least in this context, is Dutch. Check out the link! I think, in private, this bike could certainly be Swaffelen material!
As for the bike itself, it is a 29-plus model with custom geometry built for a rather tall European! Since all Rody’s creations are individual builds for specific customers final specs vary for every bicycle but Rody will guide you through the process to ferret out the design that will suit your need best. If you’d like to get a conversation going with Groovy about a custom-built bicycle, give Rody a shout at rody@groovycycleworks.com.
