Our amigos at Framed Bikes sent us a set of Maxxis Chronicle 29+ tires along to check out and share with our readers! We weighed the Chronicles on our Park Tool scale and the two tires came in at 1076 and 1062 grams. The bead to bead measurement was 188 mm and the tread to tread came in at 87mm (measured with the tire on a flat surface). I mounted the Chronicles onto Surly Rabbit Hole rims and the widest point measured 76 mm. The Chronicles appear to be just as wide as the Knards, but with a slightly less rounded profile.
I took a couple of off-road, trail rides on the new 29+ Chronicles over the weekend with 15 psi in both tires. I took just a little air out of the front, but kept the rear at 15 and the tires rolled, just like they should. The only tire that I can really compare these to, is the Knards from Surly. The Chronicles seemed every bit of the tire that the Knard has proven to be, but I’d like to ride the chronicles in a wider variety of conditions to see how they perform, when things get a little greasy.
We’ll continue to test these new 29+ Maxxis tires and share the results down the trail.

Any ETA on when these will be available to the general public?
ETA is TBA
Very excited about these. I’m crossing my fingers they roll every bit as fast as the Knards with way more cornering bite!
Just got an ETA for both Chronicles and Mammoths for end of October in the UK.
