Reader’s Ride(s) – Brandon’s Custom Titchmarsh / Rohloff 29+

Originally, Brandon sent me a single shot of his custom-built Dan Titchmarsh 29+. I immediately spied the clean cable routing, the Rohloff and the EBB, all frame elements that I really like so I asked Brandon for more info on the bike. Brendon says:

First off, this bike is a handmade 29+ made by Dan Titchmarsh. It won best off-road at the UKHBS – Bespoked!

In 2013 on a trip to London I went into Kinoko Cycles and saw a Surly Krampus for the first time and I knew straight away that, that type of bike would suit me back in Stockholm. I had seen Dan Titchmarsh’s work on the internet, in particular his Scorpion Cargobike that won a prize at Bespoked UK. I suggested a project, a 29er+ that would allow me to ride the same bike year round – to work, in the forest, everywhere, and it had to be built to handle four seasons.

The 29+ frame is hand-built from Reynolds 853 & 531 steel by Dan and it won best off-road at the UKHBS – Bespoked!

The internal cable routing on this bike is really cool. The front brake hose travels from the stem and down inside the steerer tube and then down the fork before emerging beside the caliper housing. The rear brake & rohloff cables pop out of the rear stay keeping the bike very clean aesthetically.

  • The rear dropouts from Paragon Machine Works allow a belt to be fitted, this was also a criteria of mine.
  • The brakes are British made Hope X2 & X4
  • Thomson stem & seatpost
  • Middleburn R8 cranks
  • Surly Knard tyres on Rabbit Hole rims
  • Hope bar
  • Selle San Marco saddle
  • Crank Brothers Candy 2 pedals

Brandon – with all your bicycle knowledge I’m not surprised that you ended up with such i nice bike! The Rohloff Speedhub is a very good choice in my opinion. Enjoy the ride!
