Wallpaper Wednesday – Sven’s Northpaw on the Beach

Sven here, this is my Schlick Northpaw on a recent ride along the Lake Michigan shoreline. I really dig the Rohloff and Gates Carbon Drive for conditions like this where the bike is often in the water and always right at the waterline. Lake Michigan is much higher this year so many of the beach areas we could previously ride are often submerged so getting wet is part of the game! Plus, maintenance on the drivetrain is much lower than with a traditional derailleur system.

    Hey Sven,

How do you like that Dean Ti fork? Is it rigid enough for trail work or better suited to beaches and other areas where brake forces are typically lower?

    Best,
    Chris

Chris, It is A LOT stiffer than the other Ti fork I’ve used. While I have kept it on my 5″ bike that I normally use on softer terrain, I’d say it is in the same league of stiffness as the White Brothers Carbon that I replaced. It is a bit heavier than the White Brothers but I like it! When the spring rolls around I may try it on my APe 4″ trail bike just to answer the main question you asked. My feeling is that it will work great!
