Tread Threads: Siri’s Hillsound Gaiters Review

Letter from the editor: A few weeks back, Siri did an into post for the Hillsound Armadillo LT Gaiters. We checked back in to see what she thought about how they performed and here’s what she had to say!

I’ve been riding most every day this winter and 9 out of 10 days my calves and boots have been snugly protected by the Hillsound Armadillo LT Gaiters.  I was impressed the first time I tried them on and they have never let me down since.
Apart from the fact that I need to wash them, these gaiters show no wear even after over two months of constant use.  The instep strap still holds the gaiters in place around my boots while the stretch upper with adjustable closure keeps them up right where they need to be.
I wore them in the late fall rain, the snow and the slop and not once did moisture find its way past the “waterproof and breathable membrane”.  Often times when something is this water resistant you end up sweating inside the thing so much you might as well have just let the wet and slop hit you, but these gaiters are just as breathable as advertised.  They kept me nice and warm on the windy days, but were airy enough that even on a long ride my calves were kept at a very comfortable temp.

I used these gaiters for biking, but also took them out on a couple of snowy adventures on foot.  They were perfect for a snowshoeing hike are the lakes and successfully kept the snow out of my boots during an epic snow ball fight in deep snow drifts over New Years.

If I could, I would change only two very small things about these gaiters. These are designed for snow sports and since it is primarily dark this time of year, a reflective strip down the front and back of the leg would would be helpful for not only winter cyclists, but also cross country skiers, hikers, and all winter adventurers.  And finally (I’m getting nit picky here) but the laces hook didn’t line up perfectly with where my laces are on my boots. It would make for a better fit around the ankle if I had the option to adjust the hook placement back about one inch to catch my laces and secure the front of the gaiter snugly across the top of my foot.
Overall I’d give them a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Thank you Hillsound for an awesome, no slop-in-boot season!
