New Skinny Tire Adapters

New Skinny Tire Adapters

I dropped in on our Amigos at 1UpUSA on my way out to Decorah for the Time Trials earlier this spring. 1UpUSA is in Dickeyville, Wisconsin. 1Up USA makes bike and cargo racks along with rollers and trainers. The Quik Rack won our hitch rack shootout, last summer, as the best fat-bike rack in the universe!

I thought it would be interesting to see where all of that rack magic happens. I met Robbie Lange at 1UpUSA H.Q. and he led me on a tour of the facility. I got to see racks getting assembled and carefully packaged and meet the guys out in the shop. Rob also unveiled their new skinny tire adapters that allow the Quik Rack to hold your road or cross bike tires more securely. You just snap on molded plastic wheel cups and the Quik Rack goes from 5 inch fat to 25cm road bike tires in an instant.

Nestled in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin, lives an American Manufacturing Company that makes a superior product to the big rack importers like Thule and Yakima. That’s something, we support, so when I was there at the factory, I picked up one of their fine racks for my very own! They installed the rack right onto my rig and Rob gave me about a dozen sweet, 1UpUSA Bottle openers that are made to bolt onto the Quik Rack. I was supposed to hand them out at the Decorah Time Trials, but I forgot to bring them to T-Bock’s for the awards banquet. So if you’re a 1UpUSA Quik Rack Owner, that reads this, and would like us to send you one for your rack, email a photo of your fat-bike on your rack, along with your mailing address and a short limerick about fat-bikes. Please use ‘1Up Bottle Opener’ as the subject line and we’ll mail one out. Quantities are limited and when we run out, the deal is over, but we’ll read some of the limericks on the Occasional Dose of Fat Show before the gnomes come home to roost. Send your limericks to uncle gomez@fat-bike.com.

Gomez, please ease up on the use of commas in your writing. When I read an article, I feel like, Captain Kirk is, in my head, reciting the words.

Curious, you think commas, and, Captain Kirk, have a relay-sho-nship, when in fact, Captain Kirk is in, us, all. I demonstrate this, by replying, TO YOU, without using, any commas. Tell me, do you, still see them? Do YOU hear, the, Captains whisper?

I’ll try. I do have an odd syncopation to the way that I speak and I have always sought to write in the same manner, in which I perambulate. To comma or not to comma, damage control Spok?

I have 1up racks for all our bike toting needs and I completely agree with what you say — they are superior. The thing that pushes them over the edge for me is just the sense of craftsmanship and quality they exude. The ratcheting mechanism itself is a work of art. As someone who has owned many flavors of bike rack including Saris, Thule and Yakima; I can say 1up is fantastic!

Limerick and photo for bottle opener: submitted.
    Bottle opener: received.

Thanks, 1UP USA, Fat-Bike.com, and Gomez!

Now I just need a beer for the installation QC test…

did you use a hitch extender on your fj to get the 1up to work?

    • Gomez August 1, 2016 at 8:23 am #

a hitch extender is not needed to run the rack on the FJ.
