I’m pretty lucky to live in such an amazing place. Moab, Utah has world class trails such as Porcupine Rim and Captain Ahab. But one my favorite simple pleasure of Moab and working at Moab Cyclery would be the lunch ride, most days at the shop, I’m able to get out for a quick bike ride, on break, at one of the trails close to town.
On Friday, I clocked out for lunch, jumped on the Ice Cream Truck and pedaled the half mile from Moab Cyclery to Pipe Dream singletrack. It had snowed a bit earlier in the day making the dirt tacky and the sunshine was very welcome.
Pipe Dream has 5 miles of pretty technical rolling singletrack along the base of the Moab Rim on the west side of town. It’s usually ridden out and back. There is a good mix of rock and dirt making up the trail, as well as, some cool rock armored climbs and descents. There are some spots with exposure and you almost always have a sweet view, as per usual in Moab.
Getting out for a bike ride during the middle of a work day will most certainly make your day more groovy. No matter where you work, where you ride, or what you ride, try to get out there and make those lunch rides happen. Then get back to work so you can end your day with one of your favorite beverages.
