Spy Photos – Quiring Cycles – Project Abominable

Last time that I was up to visit Scott & Christina Quiring we talked a lot about 27.5 fat-bike wheels and Scott told me that he was working on a bike specifically designed to run the new sized wheels with the new gargantuan Terrene Tires 4.5″ Cake Eaters…(Project Abominable) We left an asset in place up in Free Soil and today she sent us these spy photos of a Quiring 7005 alloy frame specifically made for the Cake Eater 27.5 x 4.5″…a tire much taller than anything else currently available.

The Cake Eater 4.5″ won’t fit on most of the current fat frames out there, so Q designed and custom fabricated this frame specifically to leverage the bigger size tire and optimize the performance of both the wheels and frame. The chainstays were kept short to increase traction and increase snappy feel.  The BB height was adjusted for the increased effective rolling radius of the tire. Sliding dropouts were used to make fine tuning adjustments to chainstay length.

Project Abominable will receive a final thermal treatment and a Cerakote Ceramic finish, before assembly. There’s a good chance that this new machine will make its debut at the Polar Roll in Marquette Michigan.

Could be an optical illusion, but looks like the drops are not parallel to the ground. Such a pet peeve of mine

    Nice!

I have a set of 27.5 x 4.5 CEs mounted on Jackalopes on a 2017 AL Mukluk with plenty of clearance.
