Showers Pass Crosspoint Waterproof Knit Gloves

Just a couple of weeks ago, at the Grand Funduro, I was talking with Tony Berger at the hangover coffee clutch. Tony is a regular on the Full Spectrum Cycling Podcast. He was singing the praises of a pair of Showers Pass Crosspoint Waterproof Knit gloves and said that he probably had sold a hundred pairs. After I tried his glove on, his sales tally went up to one-oh-one. I run pogies in temps below freezing, so I wear softshell gloves rated for 40 F for most of the winter. I just retired a pair of Pearl Izumi Softshell gloves that were all worn out, so I thought these could be a great glove to run with pogies.

The gloves are made with 3 seamless layers. An Artex waterproof breathable membrane is sandwiched between an outer layer of synthetic knit and a moisture-wicking anti-bacterial Coolmax lining. The feel of these gloves is what made me instantly want to own a pair. They almost feel therapeutic providing a snug yet cozy tactile experience. They feel good and look good.

We’re having an early cold snap behind the cheddar curtain this year with temps all the way down to the single digits. I’ve been able to test the new gloves out with a set of Wolftooth, low rise-bikini pogies and a full coverage set of Revelate Williwaw pogies in temps ranging from the teens to the mid-thirties.

In temps below 20 degrees, the new Showers Pass gloves weren’t warm enough, (for me) even inside of my pogies. I don’t know if the snug fit is reducing the blood flow or if there isn’t enough loft for insulation, but they aren’t as warm for me as a pair of rag wool gloves. It may also be due to the sudden and early drop in temperatures affecting how I feel. However, from 28-40 degrees they’ve been sterling. Rainy shoulder season riding is where these gloves really shine. The waterproof membrane sets these gloves apart from the softshell gloves that I’ve been using over the last few winters. I’ll warn you now. If you try on a pair of these gloves, it will make you want to buy a pair because they feel really nice. But…they’re not cheap. MSRP is $45 but IMO they feel more like $60 (YMMV)

$45 USD is very reasonable. I just purchased a pair of Louis Garneau water proof for $65 CND. Even a decent pair of summer full finger mt bike gloves will be almost as much. If they work to keep the digits dry and reasonably warm they are worth every penny. 👍

I have a pair and love them. The only improvement I would make is to have them be screen friendly for taking pics etc.
