Rack Stash by 1UpUSA

The 1UpUSA Rack systems are are some of the best options for getting your bike to where you want to ride it, but what do you do with your rack when you’re not bringing your bike?  Do you set it on the floor?  Do you clear out shelf space?  Do you just lean it up against your house in the driveway?  Well if you think those options suck, you’re in luck because 1Up has an option that will keep your rack off of the floor, off the shelf, or from leaning up against the side of your house.  The Rack Stash is designed specifically to fit the 1UpUsa racks, no matter what size hitch receiver you have.

I have the 1UpUSA 1.25 Quick Rack Single with an Add On and the fat bike spacer kit on each. I have the adapter to make fit a 2 inch receiver and it’s been that way for years, as might be obvious with the rust that is visible on the adapter in my pics. This is rust from the hitch receiver on my jeep, not from the adapter as most 1UpUSA parts are made with machined aluminum.

Mount is secured to the wall with 3 included lag bolts and washers.

The packaging is simple and the instructions are straight forward. Notice they clearly tell you where the rack goes and where the wall goes. Thanks Guys! 🙂 You’re going to want to make sure that you mount the lag bolts into a stud to get the max recommended supported weight of 90 lbs. I set the rack stash on the wall and measured the width of the rack from both sides to make sure I had space for the rack when mounted on the wall.

What is nice about the design is that you can swap out 8 hex bolts and change the receiver size from 2″ to 1-1/4″. One thing that surprised me was the hex head was a 4. I expected a 5 to be a little more compatible with the standard bike hex wrench size. To be fair, you’ll probably only do this swap once (if you need to do it at all) so it’s not a big deal.

Adjusting from a 2″ receiver to 1-1/4″.

I don’t have a lot of free space for a horizontal positioning in my garage, so I mounted it vertically along with my bikes.  The way that you mount the rack to the wall doesn’t change, and I could still mount it horizontally if I wanted to.

The mount is secure enough to store it either way and all you need to do is pull the swing bar on the rack to fold it up into the wall, same as you would when you fold it on the back of your vehicle.  I also tightened the rack into the receiver the same way that I would on the jeep.  It’s not necessary but it does straighten the rack out and is probably a best practice to make a habit of securing the rack whenever you install it into anything.

The rack can be folded out of the way when mounted.

In my opinion, this is a super effective and efficient way to easily and effectively store your 1UpUSA racks up and out of the way.  MSRP – $60. Look for our review of the 1UpUSA Rak Attach next week!

I’ve been using the Rack Stash for 4 months and love it! I used to just lean the rack against the wall and found myself stripping over it or having it slide and fall over. This thing is rock solid!!

can you mount your bike on the 1up rack onto the Rack Stash? I would prefer not to hang them off the wheel and MTN bike tube rear shock under top tube makes it possible to hang like road bike on wall mount. Would be cool if they could be stored this way but I am not sure this is possible. Thank you

1up’s site shows a 90 pound weight limit for the Rack Stash, so I’ll just leave it at that.

ok Ron – I emailed 1Up and this is what they replied. “Yes, the bikes can be stored on the rack. Maximum weight capacity is 90 lbs.”

Any problems storing the rack vertically? As you said, the hitch fits if going in horizontally or vertically.
