First Look – Hydro Flask Down Shift 14 Litre Hydration Pack – by Jeff Price

Editor’s Note: Hydro Flask is an up and coming newish-type brand of hydration that hit the US market a couple of years back. Last season you might have seen Dustin Marsh’s review of the Hydro Flask Journey Series 20 L Hydration Pack. This year HF has introduced the Down Shift 14 Litre Hydration Pack and you can tell by the way that we’re spelling Liter that we’ll be testing this new pack in Europe. Before we turn the microphone over to our main man in the UK, Jeff Price, let me share what Hydro Flask says about their new Down Shift!

Hydro Flask Down Shift™ 14 Liter Hydration Pack

Designed to deliver a lower center of gravity and ultra-stable ride, the 14 L Down Shift Hydration Pack features a streamlined design that transfers weight from the shoulders to hips and a 2-liter insulated reservoir positioned in the lumbar region for hands-free cold hydration. Cold water stays ice cold for 4 hours thanks to Hydro Flask’s innovative Cold Flow™ technology, featuring the insulated HydraPak® IsoBound™ 2-liter sweat-proof reservoir and reflective neoprene internal sleeve. Advanced construction includes an articulated back panel that lets air flow between you and your pack to avoid trapping body heat or transferring warmth to the water inside. Durable, yet lightweight for a comfortable fit, the Down Shift’s perimeter zipper allows quick access to the interior compartment – with multiple stretch mesh and scratch-resistant pockets that offer smart storage for tools, sunglasses, keys, and other essentials. Additional features include the HydraPak® Blaster bite valve and a magnetic hose clip. Available in three colors: Sapphire, Guava, and Black. MSRP $135

As mentioned on the UK Special Danger Gnome Zoomcast the other week, I’ve got my hands on a new innovative hydration pack.

I don’t usually ride with a hydration pack as I tend to use a water filter when I’m out but this pack has an interesting feature. Cold water should stay ice cold for 4 hours, which is a feature I’m keen to try out during the next few weeks.

First impressions are its well-made and fairly lightweight.

Keep your eyes peeled for a full review coming soon…
