Weekly Dose of Fat – 12-6-24 – Its Got to Start Sometime! Might as Well be Now!

The Weekly Dose of Fat has been, I believe, the longest running section of fat-bike.com. I posted the first installment on October 28, 2011. If you want to go back in time, check it out here. https://fat-bike.com/2011/10/weekly-dose-of-fat/

There were some lean times there and by mid-2017 The Weekly Dose became occasional and, eventually, the concept petered out. I want to resurrect it! Here’s the question, is it something you want to see again? Please let me know in the comments below.

On with the show!

The fat-bike market has changed, again. The big guys are, for the most part, out of innovating in the fat-bike space and seem to be running through old inventory. Fortunately, there are still companies out there doing cool stuff in the fat-bike space. Like these guys…

When most people unfamiliar with fat-bikes see one these days it is likely an electric bike of some kind. A lot of searches or news alerts that mention “fatbike” or “fat-bike” bring up results that are either 26×4 electric fatbikes or 20×3 and 20×4 e-bikes like this offering from direct-to-consumer company PVY.

Heck, it’s even foldable!

Obviously, there are those riders and site readers who jumped on a fat-bike years before electrics were a gleam in someone’s eye. I’m going to try to dig deep to find interesting Acoustic Fat-bike News. It will always be the focus of this column but, recognizing that other folks might want info about Electric versions, I’ll separate those out. Let’s see how this goes!

Acoustic Fat-bike News

After a few years in Wisconsin, the 2025 Borealis Fat Bike Worlds – January 24-26, 2025 – return to Crested Butte, Colorado. – https://fatbikeworlds.org

While we work to update the Event Calendar functionality, check out The NXRTH and every single fatbike race and event in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. – https://www.thenxrth.com/fat-bike-races

Electric Fat-bike News

I guess US News and World Report rates more than High Schools, colleges and such – https://www.usnews.com/360-reviews/outdoors/best-fat-tire-electric-bikes – I thought I’d see Fat Tire bikes, you know, like old MTBs but these are actually, mostly, Electric Fat-bikes. Maybe the terminology changed without me seeing.

Doe this make you think the Great Divide race is now allowing electric fat-bikes? – https://www.singletracks.com/mtb-gear/a-new-emtb-named-after-the-great-divide-and-fresh-fat-bikes-for-fall/ – it is kind cool though.

  1. Good to hear it’s making a return, good work. Some UK/Euro fatbike news would be good to be included too.

    • Hi, Jeff! Glad to hear from you again. We certainly would love to include stories from across the pond! I’ll be posting a Contributor Guidelines article soon so folks know how to contribute material for publication.
