Throwback Thursday – This Week in Fat Bike History from 6-15-12

This column is all about fat-bike history! I really dig checking in on stuff that happened during the early days of the fat-bike craze! Fat-bike.com was there! Reliving the “good ol’ days” while writing these columns sure brings back good memories and reminds me that there are many more to come! Plus, it gives me the opportunity to clean up dead links and get those old posts into the modern era of WordPress structure.

This Week in Fatbike History

The following links and commentary are from the Weekly Dose of Fat published on 6-8-12! Yes, they all still work. 13 years ago and are still available on the web today! Fat-biking history endures!

On With The Show…

With Lake Michigan at low levels in 2012, beach riding was the pastime of choice around these parts. With the temps rising that large body of water can make a ride 10-15 degrees cooler than inland trails. Comfy!

Also of note, after several years of rising Lake Michigan levels, the lake started to drop couple of years ago and, while not quite at 2012 levels yet, we have a lot more beach to ride.

In 2022 a group of us planned a trip aboard the Lake Express Ferry over to the Michigan side for 3 days of beach riding. If I remember correctly, it was a cool trip! Ride on the ferry, ride off and hit the beach. Simple, No? Guess what? We are doing it again this year with another edition of Bikes, Boats and Goats!
