Minnesota-based winter riding specialists, 45NRTH, announced today its first fat-bike rim today, the Levitas, available in 26-inch and 27.5-inch diameters.
The Levitas is a carbon rim that 45NRTH says was purpose-built to complement its own tire lineup. The internal widths are tailored for each diameter: the 26-inch version measures 84mm internally with a 91mm outer width, while the 27.5-inch version measures 76mm internally and 83mm externally. Both sizes feature a 32-hole drill pattern, a 35mm rim depth, and a narrow spoke bed intended to reduce weight without sacrificing strength. 45NRTH notes that reinforced rim walls are there to handle the impacts that come with real winter riding, a welcome design trait that some ultralight carbon fat-bike rims aren’t designed for. I’ll take durability over ultralight weight any day! Testing will confirm. I hope.

Each rim is priced at $599 USD. The 26-inch model carries part number RM0418; the 27.5-inch model is RM0417.
