– This event has been created to promote the Human Chain event (named Generosity) for the celebration of CANADA 150, raise funds to organize it and raise funds for an organization that finds long-term solutions to homelessness. What is the ''Generosity - The Human Chain'' event for Canada 150: Time to do something different. Something original. Something that will gather Canadians together and will leave them with a feeling of having accomplished something huge: In the fall of 2017, 1.25 million Canadians of all nationalities and different cultures will be forming a human chain from Windsor, Ontario to Quebec City. That is 1275 kilometers long; that would be a new Guinness World Record. Imagine families and friends getting together, enjoying a picnic and celebrating Canada's birthday on a truly unique way! The theme for this event: GENEROSITY. We think our world would be better if this factory-loaded human value would practiced more in our society. Half of the voluntary registration fees (a symbolic dollar) will go to a national organization that provides leadership on long-term solutions to homelessness. This huge project is a calling for me (Guy Rouleau). With a team of approximately 10 people, thousands of volunteers, this will be the biggest challenge I’ve undertaken. I’m ready to make this project happen which will mark the beginning of the 21st century. Are you in? Will you hold my hand? Where will you be on the chain? LEFATBIKERUN: We will be biking approximately 80 kilometers per day no matter what...We will stop at each City Hall to promote the Human Chain, we will have fun and collect money for a good cause. Fat Tire bikes are otherwise not allowed on the snow covered, groomed trail system and mountain bikes or other non-fat tire bikes are never allowed. The Fat Tire Loppet starts at noon on Sunday, after the skiers have passed through the park. Fat Tire bikers will start at Wirth Park, then bike the entire “blue trail” system, finishing at the Loppet Village in Uptown, with two deviations: Fat Tire bikes are not allowed in the Eloise Butler quadrant of Wirth Park, so the Fat Tire Loppet turns right on Glenwood Avenue and follows Glenwood for a few hundred meters before taking the singletrack at the corner of Glenwood and Wirth Parkway before re-joining the ski trail. Fat Tire bikes are also not allowed in the Minikahda Club, so the Fat Tire Loppet turns right (back onto Lake Calhoun) at that point, skipping the Minikahda Club section of the blue course. The 35K Penn Cycle Fat Tire Loppet course takes racers on a tour of Minneapolis, starting in Theodore Wirth Park, crossing the Chain of Lakes and ending in heart of Uptown on Lake Calhoun. – The Penn Cycle Puoli Fat Tire Loppet provides a once-a-year chance to ride your fat tire bike on the groomed Loppet Trail. Fat Tire bikes are otherwise not allowed on the snow covered, groomed trail system and mountain bikes or other non-fat tire bikes are never allowed. The Puoli Fat Tire Loppet starts at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday – after the Penn Cycle Fat Tire Loppet has passed through. Like the 35K event, the Pouli Fat Tire Loppet takes riders on a tour of Minneapolis, starting at Theodore Wirth Park, crossing the Chain of Lakes and finishing at Loppet Village near Lake Calhoun. The Puoli course skips some of the toughest parts of the 35K course and is only 21K long. The Puoli Fat Tire Loppet generally follows the “red” ski course – with one deviation. Fat Tire bikes are not allowed in the Eloise Butler quadrant of Wirth Park. Thus, when bikers arrive at Glenwood Avenue (first road crossing), bikers turn to the right onto Glenwood Avenue and pick up a short singletrack section starting at Wirth Parkway and Glenwood before re-joining the ski course. There will be signage and course marshals to direct bikers, but bikers are responsible for knowing the course.

Fat bike rentals from Blackwater Bikes $40
What the heck are we doing?
This is a timed, XC style fat bike race held on amazing XC ski trails at our local Nordic center with a staff of groomers making sure we have an amazing, groomed surface of that all important white stuff to ride on. The first time I rode a rental fat bike down double trouble (a kick ass groomed trail there), I was sold on why fat bikes are here to stay. I bought one the next day. I want to share that feeling with you.
Venue:
Whitegrass Ski Touring Center is opening its doors to us silly people that choose fat bikes over skis. With over thirty years in business, WG knows snow. It's got a relaxed, eclectic vibe and everything revolves around the cozy, packed ski lodge. WG is not open to fat biking the rest of the year. Btw- we all ski the trees too.
Course:
The course will be on a mix of rolling lower trails and rugged mountain trails. I'll try to find the most steady, rideable way up the mountain to see to best view in Canaan Valley at Bald Knob, followed by a tail whipping, tire sliding, blast down the mountain. I'll sprinkle small descents and climbs in there as needed to try and regulate temperature a bit. 95% of the course will be groomed, and non groomed course will be gravity aided. Your day pass fee is included in the race entry. We won't know what the course is until right before the race, since it will be based on conditions and what the best option is at the moment. But know it will be good.
Proceeds:
Any proceeds and funds raised over the weekend will go to funding the construction of a new, 2.4 mile beginner trail in the Thomas City Park. This project is a partnership between New Historic Thomas and the City of Thomas. More info on this project can be found here: __________
Schedule:
Fundraiser, raffle, and packet pickup Saturday at 6pm
Check in Sunday at 8am
Race start 9:30 AM
XXC course cut off at high noon
Awards at 2pm
Have more questions? Maybe, they are answered below. If not, email me at two9er@gmail.com.
· What kind of bike do I need to participate??
You must ride a fat bike at this event – 3.8" or bigger tires.
· What if I don’t own a fat bike?
Blackwater Bikes will be offering their rental fleet to reserve before the event.
· Is it timed?
Yes, this race will be timed and results will be posted. Awards will be classy and cheap.
What kind of support is out on course?
There will be a couple warming huts passed on the course for your needs, but you are responsible for any food and drink during your ride. There are natural springs with dipping cups on course for a quick sip.
· What if I am not the “racer” type?
Not a problem – feel free to enter anyway. Think of it as a chance to ride kick ass groomed trails with new friends!
· What about the weather?
?This is a snow only event. Chances are good for this date, but if there is no snow it will be postponed or course will be adjusted to stay on the snow farm. We are hardy West Virginians and will ride no matter the condition...unless it's just stupid out. Then individual races will be cancelled as needed.
· So how do I stay warm?
?Dress appropriately in layers, ready for temps that can be well below zero. Watch the weather. If your feet get too cold, walk. Walk to the side of the groomed trails. If you walk on the trails it screws up the surface, so be respectful and walk off the edge! . Be prepared, I don't suffer fools.
· What if I register but can’t ride??
We will miss you but, sorry, Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
