Fat Camp with Ken and Andy – The Stud Show (Notes)

Show 20!  During their holiday break, Ken and Andy slap on the studs and take advantage of their recent riding conditions. Listen to KBS and Andy (he’s got defense for his opinions in this episode finally) dissect the nitty-gritty and split hairs of three studded tires.  It’s all about ice and traction. They tested the Terrene Wazia 4.6, Vee Snow Avalanche and Dillinger 5 back, to back, to back and produced this show based on observations from that.

  1. Too bad you guys didn’t test the Vee Avalanche in the 4.8 format. Sounds like the 4.0 did well.

  2. A seriously cheaper option that works pretty well is to stud your own with stainless sheet metal screws. I used a pair of home studded Nates for several years for about $15 and several beers. Might be a good way to feel the difference before you shell out the cash for name brand studded.
