Welcome to Summer 2019! We thought that it would be nice to celebrate the first day of Summer with an old school WDoF post like we used to do before we started the podcast with the same name. I’m headed to Iowa City to celebrate the Solstice Swiftcampout with Adam Blake and the cool cats at World of Bikes. WoB is hosting a Series of overnight bikepacking trips. The #swiftcampout has really gained a lot of traction and I’m stoked to get together with some old friends for a nite under the stars!
It’s been a busy week. I got a nice long slickery gravel ride in on Sunday. Monday I rode a blue loop at Kettle and on Tuesday went on a Sub-24-Overnite with mi amigo Alex. Thursday I hit GR on my el Mariachi and today…on the first day of Summer 2019, I’m scheduled to pick up the next Demo Bike that we’re going to review from Trek World Headquarters. We’ll be testing a Trek 1120. I’m hoping that I can pack my gear onto the new bike for this weekend’s shenanigans! – wish me luck. ~much more to come on this!
Bike Black Ribbon Test Pilot and Science Officer, Andy Amstutz just put together a new Borealis Tejon demo bike for his daughter to ride and test. They’ll be enjoying some quality ‘father/daughter’ time while running the Tejon through a rigorous review over the coming months.
Aristotle and Julio have got Helmet Reviews that are ready to hatch next week. Andy and Jeff Price just started an intercontinental tag team review of the new line of Silicone grips from Wolftooth Components. Jeff is also reviewing the new C7 Gore bike shorts. Becky Vordermann has been taking the Otso Waheela C out on singletrack in Idaho and she’s getting ready to swap out the tires for some gravel riding.
The Dose of Fat crew (Leia, Spinner, Gomez) challenged the Full Spectrum Cycling Podcast crew (Greg, JK, Tony) to a team bike race but I don’t think that the Full Spectrum Crew listens to the Dose so there’s been no answer from them. If not a bike race we could hold a spelling contest or perhaps a scrabble tournament. Since we’re talking about podcasts…the Dose of Fat is coming up on it’s 150th show this October and we think that we should throw a shindig to celebrate! I’m going to try to get as many of the cast members from all of the dose’s iterations to attend and we’ll reminisce! ~ much more to come on that too!

CABDA Opens 2020 Exhibitor Registration
Chicago, IL, June 6th, 2019: CABDA Expo organizers announced on Monday that they have opened exhibitor registration for all three of their 2020 regional trade shows: CABDA West in metro San Diego, CABDA Midwest held outside Chicago, and CABDA East in metro New York City.
2020 marks the second iteration of CABDA’s West Coast event held at the Del Mar Racetrack, twenty miles north of San Diego.
“Last time around, we completely underestimated the demand we’d see in California,” CABDA Show Director Jim Kersten said, “But for 2020, we’ve more than doubled our capacity for exhibits and attendees. We’ll have both indoor and outdoor demo capability should the weather choose not to cooperate. And we’ve moved all our after-hours programming onsite, which eliminates the need to shuttle folks back and forth.”
The 2019 CABDA Midwest was CADBA’s largest event to date. It will continue to be held at the Schaumburg Convention Center roughly ten miles west of Chicago.
The inaugural CABDA East will be held at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, New Jersey, just across the Hudson from Manhattan.
“There are a tremendous amount of shops in New England and the Mid Atlantic region that I think are under served.” Kersten said “It is time we did something about it.”
“We’re making significant changes to all of our floorplans to improve attendee traffic flow.” Kersten said. “We’re adding more food options at all of our events so folks won’t have to exit our venues to grab a bite. We’ve also moving all of our seminars and clinics directly onto the show floor, negating the need to leave the show to attend break-out sessions.”
All CABDA shows will continue to feature clinics and seminars organized by the Professional Bicycle Mechanics Association (PBMA).
“We want to make it easy to bring staff to learn about new products and receive technical/sales training at all of our shows.” Kersten said “PBMA has been without peer in their pursuit of better training and better standards for our industry”
Schedule
CABDA West takes place January 15-16 at the Del Mar Racetrack near San Diego.
CABDA Midwest takes place February 12-13 at the Schaumburg Convention Center. near Chicago.
CABDA East takes place March 11-12 at the Meadowlands Expo Center outside New York City in Suburban New Jersey.
