Our amigo, Nakashima Kurato checked in today to share some photos and results from this past weekend’s Fat Bike Championship at the 26ism Asagiri trail park” near Toyota City, Japan. The Fat Bike Championship was run in conjuction with the Singlespeed Japan Championships and some the racers in the fat-bike category embraced the weird, wild and wonderful, singlespeeder custom of racing in costumes with a focus on FUN competition!
The day of the race was rainy, which left the 3K dirt loop muddy and slick. The 5 lap championship was shortened to the best time for 2 laps around the 26ism Asagiri trails due to bad weather and deteriorating trail conditions. It looks like they had a total blast!
The Results
1st. Mr. Garth Weinburg (2010 SSWC Winner)
2nd. Mr. Katsuya Imai
3rd. Mr. Kazumi Aikawa
4th. Mr. Hiroshi Ukai
5th. Mr. Ryuuichi Ikeda
The following day the sun came out for their Singlespeed race. There were all sorts of singlespeed bikes ridden in the ss race and wild costumes. There were even a couple singlespeed fat-bikes in the race. We love single speed events!
Fat-biking in Japan reminds me of how things were just a couple of years ago in the US. Small, grassroots and FUN!
¡Long Live Fat Grassroots Racing!
