GrosBig Fat-bike from Xprezo in Canada

Gros_Big_2014

We first saw an inkling of the new fat-bike from Xprezo last winter in a YouTube video that we saw posted from Xmas eve about a secret shop project to build a fat bike over vacation.

Then we saw a prototype from the Quebec-based company at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show a few months back in Charlotte. I talked to Pierre-Luc there and asked him to keep us informed on the progress of the design and he just sent me this new information.

There is a PDF attached at the end of the article with a bunch of specs and info about Xprezo’s GrosBig Fatbike! It will be available and ready to ship at the end of November 2014. Pierre-Luc tells me that the Gros Big Fatbike is the only made in Canada Fatbike with 100% custom options, from the paint to the tires!

Some of the key features are:

  • 197mm x 12mm Rear Axle with clearance up to 5.0″ tires
  • Short, tapered head tube, 69-degrees and Bluto compatible.
  • Low standover
  • Internal cable routing
  • Pressfit BB
  • CNC chainstay yoke
  • A geometry designed for lively handling and
  • Frame weight in Medium 3.7 pounds
  • Expect a well equipped Gros Big to weigh about 28 pounds.
  • Check out the PDF for more info!

Where as the first prototypes of the Xprezo fat-bike were wrought out of steel, the production version will be 6061 Aluminum allowing the use of specifically shaped tubes to allow the desired geometry and frame features to be fully realized. The CAD image below shows a lot of what to expect!

It is hard to see in the photos we have but an interesting parts spec has the 197×12 rear axle but they are pairing it with a crank made for 170mm spacing to help reduce the Q-factor. It will be interesting to see how that plays out in actual use!

Pricing in CAD starts at 3400 with the best bang for the buck spec slotted in at 3750.
