We’re lucky to have the opportunity to test out the Chumba USA Ursa Mid-fat 29+. This hand made steel, Texas native, feels like it can shred with the best of the big boys, but we’ve got something a little different in mind this time around. This dirt whip is outfitted with a co-branded Wanderlust bike packing set up, for hauling whatever you might need to spend a weekend in the woods. It comes with a handlebar bag, top tube pack, frame bag, and seat pack.
Chumba offers a few different frame/fork options to cater to your fancy. You can get a frame only, or if you’re not into the “wheelie all the time” thing you’ve got a couple of front end options. You can get it with a Cane Creek Headset and Whiskey No.9 Carbon fork, or the tried and true Surly Steel Fork option set up with mounts for extra water bottle cages and a rack if you so desire.
Build Spec’s
The Chumba Select Steel frame does come complete with PMW sliding dropouts – In case you get sick of shifting.
We’ll be putting the boots to the Ursa with and without the carry all set up for the next few weeks. It will be interesting to see how a loaded up 29+ handles and now we’re in snow season which will add a bit of sass to the ride. So check back now and again during the holidays for my full report on what it’s like to ride an Ursa (bear).
