Here we are looking down the barrels of Global Fat-Bike Day number 5! GFBD-Cinco!  To give you an idea of what GFBD is all about, we’ve shared some videos from last year in this year’s announcement. The 2016 Global Fat-Bike Celebration is December 3rd, 2016

Five years, ago a couple of very clever Brits came up with an idea for a grass roots – worldwide – fat-bike holiday, that would bring the fat-bike community together, like nothing we’ve ever seen before or since! December 3rd, is the date of this year’s – GLOBAL FAT-BIKE DAY! Some of you are probably wondering… why are we telling you about an event so far in advance? Well it’s because you are all part of the planning process! It takes time to get all of your ducks in a row, and gather your regional fat-tribe for some world-wide group-fun. So consider this your early reminder, to mark your calendars and get that process started. This event is purely a grass-roots, community based dealio. no sponsors, no entry fees, and no worries…..just, one of the best times, you have ever had on a fat-bike! GFBD isn’t owned or run by any commercial enterprize. GFBD belongs to everyone that has a fat-bike and wants to celebrate! Every year, someone reminds us that some people have to work on Saturday, so If that applies to you, feel free to hold your ride on Sunday, if that works better. GFBD is all about fun and freedom. There are threads about GFBD at both the UK Fat-Bike Forum and the MTBR Fat-Bike Forum, but you should feel free to share your celebration anywhere that you like.

Everyone is invited to get together and join in the fun!

On December 3rd, 2016, people from all over the globe, will get out for a ride on their fat-bikes!  They’ll go for a solo cruise or maybe make plans to gather their fat-bike amigos, for a group ride! Don’t forget your camera, because part of the Global Fat-Bike Day celebration will include sharing your experience, through photos and video! The world fat-bike community is ready to learn more about this year’s GFBD so regional ride organizers, please share your plans for the event! Drop us a note at We’ll post links to regional GFBD rides in our Weekly Dose of Fat reports on Fridays leading up to the date of the event. To get folks revved up for this year’s GFBD we’re running a Design Contest!

The Design Contest

For the last few years, we’ve worked with Graphic Artists that have donated their time to make a banner for anyone to utilize for all of the individual GFBD events across the globe. We encouraged people to share the graphic or create their own and last year, I saw some really nice examples of graphics from around the world, to celebrate Global Fat-Bike Day. It’s in that spirit that we’d like to announce a design contest for this year’s banners.

First Place – Surly Special Ops Moonlander (Frame Size Large)

By my count it is GFBD # 5. IF you start from the 2012 banner. Not to get to picky. 😉

Fun to see Global Fatbike Day 2015 Örnsköldsvik in top of the page.
    I was planning that event.
It was a rainy GFBD for us. Wet ice on the frozen ground, flooded beaches and a warm cabin to eat some food in.
Wery nice people made it a perfect day.
On December 3rd, 2016, we do it again.
