85 days!

We all know it’s been one hell of a 12 months, there are many sad stories of loved ones lost. We have had restrictions put in place which has affected our mental health as well as our (my) weight! So when the Welsh Government lifted the restrictions on the Stay at Home so that meant we could now travel to start our exercise. Despite the poor weather I was happy to load up the Bucksaw for a 20 minute drive to one of my favourite places, Cwm Eigiau.

There had been a lot of rain the last few days and coupled with melting snow from the hilltops where I rode just a couple of weeks ago in summer like conditions, the going was very wet under the treads.

The location for my GFBD night over

I made my way up to the Cwm Eigiau slate quarry where I’ve been many times before and where I’ve filmed a few times too. Its great to be there on a nice sunny day but on a cold, windy day it adds to the atmosphere of the place.

Another intention of going here was to check out a bivvy spot. Like many others I’ve spent too much time at home and not doing what I love to do, bikepacking. So after getting to the quarry, I had a good walk around checking out all the ruined buildings for a future camp spot.

Bivvy spot?

I soon picked a great spot which I’m hoping to use pretty soon. As it was a bit chilly after the ride up the hill, I made myself a coffee and heated up some soup on my stove which made me chill out and savour the moment.

Adapted shelving!

It was soon time to head back down but not till I took in my surroundings eager to return for a night under the stars….
