We haven’t featured a film from our long-time amigo, Bruce the Coastkid Mathieson, for a few months, so here’s his latest bike film. Bruce switches to a 29+ set-up in the summer, which made me continue to think about the subject of….What modifications do you make to your fat-bike for Summer?

I’m in the middle of testing a couple of warm weather fat-bikes along with my own Corvus fatty and my head is swimming with thoughts about the merits of each set-up. I’m working on putting an episode of the Danger Gnome Podcast that features what our crew has to say on the subject and your ideas if you care to share them.

What modifications do you make to your fat-bike for Summer?

  1. I go from my Terrene 26xF5.0/R4.6 studded set up for winter to 27.5×4.0 Van Helga set up for spring, summer, and fall. It’s my happy place.

  2. Sommer set up – change carbon fork to Manitou Mastodon, Change tires to Jumbo jim 4.0 rear and Surly Nate 4.0 front with 65mm carbon hoops.
