Global Fat Bike Day 2015! #GFBD2015

GlobalFatBikeDay2015_cover

Three years, ago a couple of very clever Brits came up with an idea for a grass roots – worldwide – fat-bike holiday, that would bring the fat-bike community together, like nothing we’ve ever seen before or since! December 5th, is the date of this year’s – GLOBAL FAT-BIKE DAY! Some of you are probably wondering… why are we telling you about an event so far in advance? Well it’s because you are all part of the planning process! It takes time to get all of your ducks in a row, and gather your regional fat-tribe for some world-wide group-fun. So consider this your early reminder, to mark your calendars and get that process started. This event is purely a grass-roots, community based dealio. no sponsors, no entry fees, and no worries…..just, one of the best times, you have ever had on a fat-bike! GFBD isn’t owned or run by any commercial enterprize. GFBD belongs to everyone that has a fat-bike and wants to celebrate! There are threads about GFBD at both the UK Fat-Bike Forum and the MTBR Fat-Bike Forum. Everyone is invited to get together and join in the fun!

On December 5th, 2015, people from all over the globe, will get out for a ride on their fat-bikes!  They’ll go for a solo cruise or maybe make plans to gather their fat-bike amigos, for a group ride! Don’t forget your camera, because part of the Global Fat-Bike Day celebration will include sharing your experience, through photos and video! Use the hashtag #GFBD2015. The world fat-bike community is ready to learn more about this year’s GFBD so regional ride organizers, please share your plans for the event! Drop us a note at info@fat-bike.com. We’ll post links to regional GFBD rides in our Weekly Dose of Fat reports on Fridays leading up to the date of the event.

With all of the new hardware that’s coming down the pike, think about how exciting its going to be, when we all come together in groups and get the opportunity to take some of these new bikes for a test spin. Or imagine how cool it’s going to be for new members of the fat-bike community to show off their new school rides to the long beards and early adopters in the group. The idea behind GFBD is for the entire fat-bike community to go for a ride together and then….maybe derby it up!

    Boo hoo,
    cant we participate in Australia?

    • Gomez July 9, 2015 at 8:32 am #

Yes you can participate in Australia. The earth is round so no matter how the blue marble spins, Australia is still part of earth. Look up the definition of Global.

You’re on there, just around the other side. It’s a picture of a globe. When you take a sphere and illustrate it using two dimensional media you will only show a portion of that sphere. You’re welcome to make your own version of this banner or a banner that is completely different if that’s what will make you happy. Our goal for GFBD is to bring people together and do something that makes us all happy. (Riding Bikes) There’s a soap opera in the US called ‘As the World Turns’. Let’s not turn this banner into a soap opera.

And that chainring has 26 teeth (and looks a bit worn) – does anyone make one that size ?……
We only get “neighbors” and “home and away” here.
Looking forward to the 5th December, it will be summer here so will be something on the sand I expect.

Who set the date for Global Fatbike Day? Its on a Saturday in the Uk which means many people cannot attend. It should be on the 6th!!

    • Gomez September 23, 2015 at 8:11 am #

You could plan your ride on the 6th if you like. The past 3 GFBD’s have been run on the first Saturday in December. Every day is 24 hours long. How is it “many people” cannot fit an hour or two of riding in on that Saturday? If they have to work Saturdays – they could ride at night. If they work at night, they could ride in the morning. So plan a ride any day you want and make every day Global Fat Bike Day.

I’m late to this party, but I’m pretty sure the 5th was a Saturday in MOST countries. Wasn’t just a UK thing.
